Chris Christie defends wife: ‘That was not an eye roll’

Chris Christie defended his wife Thursday by saying she did not roll her eyes at Donald Trump Tuesday when he said Hillary Clinton was “playing the woman’s card.”

Many in the press and on Twitter said Mary Pat Christie rolled her eyes when Trump made the comments:

But Christie said people were overstating her reaction.

“Being the recipient of more eye rolls from my wife than any human being on earth,” the Republican New Jersey governor told reporters at an event in Lawrenceville, according to NJ.com, “that was not an eye roll.”

“It’s all silliness,” Christie added. “I’ve seen the Mary Pat eye roll for 32 years (and) that was not an eye roll.”

Christie then jabbed at the media.

“You people are obsessed with stupid stuff. You all should just move on to something else,” he said. “The whole group of you asking about this, you should be working at TMZ for God’s sake. You all are seeing what you want to see because you all were rolling your eyes at what he said, and you want someone else to agree with you — Mary Pat does not agree.”

Christie is no stranger to attention for facial expressions. During Trump’s Super Tuesday victory speech, Christie was seen behind Trump with an emotionless, stunned appearance for which he caught criticism.
