MSNBC host laments being unable to donate to Obama re-election effort

MSNBC’s Ed Schultz has a problem – he can’t donate to Barack Obama’s re-election effort.

Schultz told fellow Obama backer and talking head Bill Maher, who gave $1 million to an Obama Super PAC earlier this year, during appearance on his HBO show “Real Time” that he would give to the campaign if MSNBC would let him.

I’ve done my part, Ed,” he said. “…You got more money than me, Ed. Just saying.”

“They won’t allow me,” Schultz replied. “I can’t give money.”

“What do you mean you can’t give money?” Maher asked. “”Where I work, I’m not allowed to give money!” Schultz said. “I can’t give political money to anybody.” He added that, “If I could, I would. Damn right I would.”

Former MSNBC anchor and al-Qaida favorite Keith Olbermann paid the price for donating money to Democratic campaigns in 2010 by getting suspended and ultimately forced out of the network.

“I’m trying to keep my job,” Schultz said referring to what happened to Olbermann.
