Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign unveiled a new Spanish-language ad in Nevada featuring an illegal U.S. resident calling on people to vote for Clinton, “if you can.”
Astrid Silva is a “dreamer,” an alien minor unlawfully residing in the U.S., who said in the ad that federal officials apprehended her father on his way home from work. She said she has decided to fight for immigration reform.
“I’m Astrid Silva, a Nevadan, and one of 25,000 dreamers in the state,” Silva said in the ad according to a translation provided the Clinton campaign. “Today I work legally thanks to President Obama and the [Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals] program. But Trump’s plans couldn’t be more clear.”
The ad noted that Donald Trump Jr., the Republican nominee’s son, was asked when visiting Nevada whether Silva was at risk of deportation. Trump Jr. is shown in the ad saying, “It’s a possibility.”
“As president, only Hillary Clinton will protect dreamers and families like ours,” Silva said. “Talk with your loved ones. Our future is in your hands. If you can, vote.”
The digital ad is targeted at Nevadans ahead of Clinton’s return to the state on Wednesday.
