White House: Trump ‘hasn’t ignored’ North Korean human rights abuses

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said Thursday that President Trump is not ignoring human rights abuses in North Korea after his summit with Kim Jong Un.

“The president hasn’t ignored the bad things done by the North Korean regime,” Sanders told reporters at Thursday’s press briefing.

Trump has come under fire for speaking too favorably about Kim following their summit in Singapore.

Sanders also said Trump did discuss human rights concerns with Kim as he has “publicly stated.”

Pressed on which specific concerns Trump addressed, Sanders replied,”A number of them. I’m not going to get into details of their private conversation.”

Sanders also defended an image of Trump saluting a North Korean military official as a “common courtesy.”
