Are Democrats defecting from Nancy Pelosi?

With 100 seats in play and abysmal congressional approval ratings, Democrats are starting to wonder aloud if they should continue to support Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi:

The West Virginia state senator challenging Rep. Alan Mollohan in next month’s Democratic primary said this week that if elected, he would hope to support someone other than Nancy Pelosi for speaker of the House.

In a fresh sign that Pelosi may be a political liability for Democrats in competitive districts, primary challenger Mike Oliverio told the Wheeling News-Register that he would vote “for the candidate in the best interest of West Virginia.”

“Hopefully, there will be a better candidate than Nancy Pelosi,” he said, after a Chamber of Commerce dinner Tuesday featuring Republican consultant Dick Morris. Morris praised Oliverio’s campaign at the event, but questioned whether he could win as long as voters viewed him as a vote for Pelosi as speaker.

Most observers agree Mollohan is at serious risk of losing his primary election to Oliverio. Further, Mollohan has been dogged by corruption charges.
