Actor Peter Fonda died on Friday morning following respiratory failure from lung cancer.
“It is with deep sorrow that we share the news that Peter Fonda has passed away,” the Easy Rider star’s family shared in a statement, which added that he died peacefully at his Los Angeles, California home surrounded by family.
“In one of the saddest moments of our lives, we are not able to find the appropriate words to express the pain in our hearts,” the statement continued. “As we grieve, we ask that you respect our privacy. And, while we mourn the loss of this sweet and gracious man, we also wish for all to celebrate his indomitable spirit and love of life.”
Fonda was the younger brother of actress Jane Fonda and son of Henry Fonda. The late actor is also known for his roles in Ulee’s Gold and The Passion of Ayn Rand.
Politically outspoken, he garnered controversy last year after tweeting, “We should rip Barron Trump from his mother’s arms and put him in a cage with pedophiles.”
