Be on the lookout for holiday thieves, officials warn

AAA Mid-Atlantic is warning Black Friday shoppers to stay alert to thieves and carjackers who could be lurking in retail parking lots. Thieves are known to target cars displaying GPS devices, cell phones, electronic chargers, E-ZPasses, shopping bags and even loose change, said John B. Townsend II, spokesman for AAA Mid-Atlantic.

Rockville City Police are urging shoppers not to leave anything in plain sight in their cars. To be extra vigilant, drivers with a GPS device that suctions to the window should wipe away the marks left on the glass. Police also are encouraging women to take advantage of mall escorts to accompany them to their cars. – Hayley Peterson
