Seth Moulton, a Massachusetts congressman running for president, said if the United States was not racist, then former 2018 gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams would be Georgia’s governor.
For that reason, the Democrat said, the country needs a new Voting Rights Act.

“We have a problem with racism in America today. If this country wasn’t racist, Stacey Abrams would be governor,” Moulton said during a CNN town hall. “Because people of color are being systemically denied the most basic right in a democracy, which is the right to vote. That’s why we need a new Voting Rights Act in America.”
Abrams lost to Republican Brian Kemp by about 54,000 votes.
Speaking on criminal justice reform, the Marine Corps veteran admitted to smoking marijuana when he was younger.
“I didn’t get caught, but if I had, I would’ve been fine because I’m a white guy. Just last year, I think it was, a Louisiana man was sentenced to prison for life for selling $20 of marijuana. So criminal justice reform means we need to legalize cannabis. We need to legalize marijuana across this country, and if you are in prison for that, you’re out and we expunge those records,” he said.
His version of the Votings Rights Act would include automatic voter registration, abolishing the electoral college, ending gerrymandering, and giving statehood to Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico.
Moulton said racism in America has been embolden because he believes President Trump is a racist.
As he is one of the over a dozen Democrats running for president, Moulton is polling at an average of .02%, according to RealClearPolitics.
