MOSELEY, Va. (AP) — The Metro Richmond Zoo says a second cheetah cub born last month has died.
The zoo tells media outlets the cub died Sept. 25, two days after the first cub died.
Necropsies showed both cubs died from failing kitten syndrome, in which kittens gradually weaken and die after birth.
The zoo says both cubs were underweight.
The cubs were among five born at the zoo on Sept. 19.
