Gorsuch: ‘I regret putting my family through this’

Judge Neil Gorsuch lamented the politicization of the Supreme Court nomination process during Tuesday’s Senate Judiciary Committee hearings.

Facing questions from Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, D-R.I., about a “dark money” campaign to boost his bid for the high court, Gorsuch sounded distraught about the politicization of his nomination. He noted a previous judge coming before the committee was able to smoke cigarettes during his hearing.

“There’s a great deal about the process I regret,” Gorsuch said. “I regret putting my family through this.”

Gorsuch’s wife sat directly behind Gorsuch as he made the remarks as she did for the first day of his hearing on his nomination.
