Ted Kennedy, “lion of the Senate” (whatever that may mean — a reference to his full head of hair, perhaps), peace negotiator, bon vivant, scion of bootleggers, and driver extraordinaire, is to be knighted by Queen Elizabeth, Gordon Brown announced yesterday to a joint session of Congress. Said Brown in his panegyric to Kennedy: “Known in every continent — Northern Ireland today is at peace, more Americans have healthcare, children around the world are going to school — and for all those things, we owe a great debt to the life and courage of Senator Edward Kennedy.” Wait a minute! I thought George Mitchell brought peace to Northern Ireland! And wasn’t Hillary “SCHIP” Clinton responsible for pushing through health care legislation for children? Oh, never mind. I’ll leave the “more-heroically-liberal-than-thou” contest to them that’s liberal. I would like to put in a word for some who, but for the tender mercies of Teddy Kennedy, might have been around to benefit from all this bounty, namely, Mary Jo Kopechne and her unborn children. Thus:
