Documents that were recovered from longtime Trump lawyer Michael Cohen’s shredder contained handwritten notes, insurance documents, and documents that prosecutors already had obtained, according to a new report.
The Department of Justice revealed in June that prosecutors had recovered approximately 16 pages of shredded documents obtained in a raid of Cohen’s office and home this year, and the documents have since been obtained by BuzzFeed News.
The records contain handwritten notes concerning a taxi business, an invitation to an event to meet business representatives from Qatar, and some documents that appear to be apartment insurance forms, BuzzFeed News reports.
Additionally, the documents contain letters from Karen Wickman, who alleges that President Trump harassed and blackmailed her decades ago. A legal filing from 2017 shows she had submitted 42 “unmeritorious motions, pleadings, and other papers.” She claims that Cohen did not reply to any of the letters.
Another page also details a previously reported $62,500 wire transfer that aligns with payments from Elliott Broidy, who reportedly paid Cohen to arrange a nondisclosure agreement with a Playboy model with whom he had an affair in exchange for her silence about their relationship.
It has not been determined yet if the documents recovered from the shredder will aid federal prosecutors who are looking into Cohen’s business dealings.
Cohen’s home and office were raided by the FBI in April, where agents seized computers, phones, and other materials of Cohen’s, including documents pertaining to porn star Stormy Daniels, who claims she had an affair with Trump in 2006. Cohen is under investigation for potentially violating tax or campaign finance laws.
It was reported last month that Cohen, who has not been charged with a crime yet, had hired Guy Petrillo to represent him ahead of federal court proceedings in New York. Petrillo previously led the criminal division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office of the Southern District of New York, the same office that is probing Cohen’s business dealings.
