President Trump was just messing with Freedom Caucus Rep. Mark Meadows, R-N.C., when he told him “I’m gonna come after to you,” during a meeting between Trump and House Republicans on Capitol Hill Tuesday morning.
Meadows has so far refused Trump’s entreaties to back the Obamacare repeal and replacement bill and bring his conservative caucus along.
Trump was “just having fun with him,” White House press secretary Sean Spicer said Tuesday afternoon.
Meadows and the Freedom Caucus are among the last holdouts against the bill, and if enough members of the caucus oppose it, the legislation may not pass. A presidential insult or threat sent Meadows way could end up being counterproductive to Trump’s cause.
