Blade comes loose, hits NYC pedestrian in leg

NEW YORK (AP) — Authorities say a pedestrian was injured when a power saw blade at a construction site came loose and flew about 100 feet through the air.

The victim was hit in the leg Tuesday as she walked along 48th Street near 9th Avenue.

The saw is used to cut through concrete.

Police say it broke loose, flew up in the air and hit a tree before cutting a deep gash in the victim’s leg. She was taken to a hospital. Her condition wasn’t immediately known.

Police say the construction company was contracted by the Department of Transportation to replace a ruptured water main.

According to the New York Post, the DDC said in a statement the contractor was ordered not to use any saws until they were inspected and deemed safe.
