Expanded gun rights may be coming to New York City

Just last week Federal Judge Frederick J. Scullin struck down D.C.’s requirement that residents show “good reason” for needing a concealed carry permit. Now that battle may be spreading across the country.

According to the New York Post, other anti-gun cities like New York City may be facing similar constitutional objections.

New York City currently has a similar stipulation where applicants must show good reason for needing a concealed carry permit-usually in the case of self-defense. Such requirements often aggravate the rights of individuals to the point of blocking them.

“It’s a big deal because the “good reason” hurdle is being used by municipalities to evade the Bill of Rights. What would be the reaction were Americans required to show “good reason” before they were allowed to pray in public?” Seth Lipsky writes in the NY Post.

New York may just follow in D.C’s footprint, making it easier to obtain gun ownership and a concealed carry permit. Although any such changes though will certainly come at the ire of Mayor Bill de Blasio and the majority of New York City’s liberal city council.
