Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa has some explaining to do.
As you may recall, last week Red Alert Politics reported that L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa had been caught partying in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico with former Two and a Half Men star Charlie Sheen. The two were in Cabo for the opening of a hotel – El Ganzo – that features a bar named after Sheen called Sheenz. During the party, the two posed for a picture, which Sheen posted to his twitter, with the caption:

Villaraigosa, a rising star within the Democratic Party, told NBC4LA on Sunday that he was on vacation during the trip when he ran into Sheen at the hotel opening. According to to Villaraigosa, he merely posed for a picture with the controversial actor and nothing more.
“I had a three minute conversation with him, I took a picture with him …. I take a picture every single day, 50 times, and I took a picture with him,” ” he said, trying to play the incident off as NBD.
“But you know the ramifications of that . . . ” the newscaster said before he was interrupted by a defensive Villaraigosa, who said, “No, you know what, I have never said no to anyone who wanted to take a picture.”
In the interview Villaraigosa also blamed the newscaster and the media for turning the ‘silly’ story into national news, saying “You’re in that business of making people look bad, of creating some kind of caricature.
“I’m not in that business,” he continued.
While Villaraigosa may not be in the business of making people look bad, he’s definitely in the business of lying, according to Charlie Sheen.
Sheen reportedly told TMZ that the photo was actually taken in his hotel suite, where the two hung out for several hours.
“I memorize 95 pages a week, so the last thing that I am is memory challenged, Sheen said. “We hung out for the better part of 2 hours, discussing his L.A. roots, his poignant bullet campaign as well as his numeric 3 AM lawn-watering tactics.” (Peeing in public.)
Sheen also told TMZ that at least one porn star was in the suite, as well.
It’s baffling why a prominent Democrat like Villaraigosa, who spoke at the Democratic National Convention last year, who has only six months left in his term and is rumored to be on Obama’s short list for a position in the administration, would lie about something so ‘silly.’ It’s also unlikely that Sheen would lie about the incident given that his affection for the fellow Democrat – and the fact that unlike Villaraigosa he has nothing to lose in the situation.
In the interview with NBC4LA Villaraigosa refused to confirm or deny that he had been approached by the Obama administration, saying, “I’m not going to tell you what conversations I’ve had with them.”
Evidently he’s not going to tell the media what conversations he’s had with Charlie Sheen, either.
