PARACHINAR, Pakistan (AP) — A Pakistani government official says security forces clashed with militants in a northwestern tribal region near the Afghan border and killed 30 militants.

Jamil Khan says five soldiers also died in the battle on Tuesday. He says the fighting broke out when insurgents ambushed security forces during a routine search in the Orakzai region.
