ELDERSBURG, Md. (AP) — Maryland State Police are charging a Westminster man with murder for a shooting at an Eldersburg tavern that left one man dead and another wounded.

The Carroll County Times (http://bit.ly/NqxQHY ) reports that police arrested 24-year-old Jacob Bircher on Friday morning for the slaying at the Harvest Inn on Liberty Road.

Police say they’re holding Bircher on a temporary warrant charging him with first-degree murder for the shooting of 36-year-old David Garrett of Sykesville.

They say Gary Hale of Woodstock was also shot. He is being treated at Shock Trauma for a wound that is not considered life-threatening.

The incident was reported shortly after midnight.

Witnesses told police all three men were standing in the tavern parking lot when Bircher opened fire.
