Stephen Colbert said on Face the Nation Sunday that he has found one admirable quality about Donald Trump: “the party elders” don’t want him, but the people do.
“There’s a populism to Trump that I find very appealing,” the late night host said. “I may disagree with anything that he’s saying and think that his proposals are a little — well, more than a little shocking. But there is something really hopeful about the fact that, well, 36 percent of the likely [GOP primary] voters want him so the people in the machine don’t get to say otherwise.”

Colbert continued that he did not agree with the majority of Trump’s proposals and found them mostly shocking.
“What I do respect is that he does know that it is an emotional appeal,” Colbert continued. “And it might be emotional appeals that I don’t, can’t respect but he knows you have to appeal to the voters. That’s why I may be wrong, I made a big deal that there’s no way he’s going to win.”
