Grandmother, grandson killed in alleged DUI crash
A grandmother and her 2-year-old grandson were killed in a car crash Friday, Prince William County police said. Rebecca L. Sacra, 60, of Alexandria, and 2-year-old Jonathan Wade-Ortiz were pronounced dead at the scene of a crash at the intersection of Prince William Parkway and University Boulevard in Manassas. Police arrested William John Mallory, 26, of Stafford, Va. and charged him with driving under the influence. Stafford is due in court on Nov. 6.
Peaceoholics counselor found guilty
A youth counselor for a prominent D.C. non-profit was found guilty of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl at the school where he was allowed to mentor. Peaceoholics counselor Barry Harrison, 50, of District Heights, was found guilty of all five charges, including child sex abuse. Harrison had a previous murder conviction for murder in 1984. He faces up to 90 years in prison. He sentence is set for Nov. 13.

Man charged in Craigslist sex assaults
A Blandensburg was charged with attacking at least five women he met through Craigslist. Prosecutors said Edgar D. Romero, 23, and an unknown accomplice contacted women through ads for erotic services. Romero and the other man would meet the women at a Washington hotel, show a knife or gun, bind the women with duct tape and steal from them, according to charging documents. Romero sexually assaulted two of the victims and helped his accomplice sexually assault one woman.
Husband convicted of Maryland church slaying
A Montgomery County jury found a man guilty of first-degree murder in the shooting death of his estranged wife outside a church during Sunday services. Kevin Kelly, 53, an accountant, faces a possible life sentence. Prosecutors said Kelly had been asked to leave his home, went to New Jersey, then returned to meet his wife, Patricia Kelly, at the People’s Community Baptist Church, where he shot her several times. Kelly testified that he “just snapped” but jurors determined that the shooting was pre-mediated.
