Fox News host Sean Hannity told Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, on Friday that he’d back him for House speaker. Jordan announced Thursday he’s running to replace Paul Ryan.
“If you become the speaker, look, I will support you for speaker, because I think the Freedom Caucus has been the most committed to fighting to keep their promises and literally the single biggest group fighting to defend the things that are conservative in the country and have helped the president the most,” Hannity told the congressman during his show.
Jordan’s candidacy is considered a long shot due to his lack of popularity among House Republicans. If Republicans hang on to their majority, he’d likely go up against House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy for the position.
Jordan, along with House Freedom Caucus chairman Mark Meadows, R-N.C., on Wednesday filed a resolution to impeach Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein. House GOP leadership did not support their efforts.
