Federal officials pledged on Monday to give Virginia and Maryland nearly $27 million to repair bridges and roads damaged by two major storms in August and September.
Virginia is slated to receive $19.1 million, including $12.6 million for damage caused by Hurricane Irene on Aug. 26 and $6.5 million for Tropical Storm Lee that occurred just over a week later on Sept. 5
Maryland, meanwhile, will receive $7.66 million for damage from Lee, according to U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood.
The money is part of $1.6 billion in repair money to communities around the country for a variety of storms and natural disasters. Some of the money had been announced previously.
