ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — The Florida Highway Patrol says an Orange County Sheriff’s deputy struck and killed a woman who was walking near the Orange Blossom Trail in Orlando.

The crash happened early Monday morning as 38-year-old Deputy Eric Rivera was driving east in the “bi-directional turn lane.”

Troopers say the woman was crossing the road when she was struck by Rivera’s vehicle and a second car.

The woman was declared dead a short time later at Orlando Regional Medical Center.

The crash remains under investigation.
