Facebook placed a warning label on a Republican Party ad that showed clips of police officers being hit by drivers.
The social media company marked the new Republican ad with a warning on Friday, noting that it violated its new policies, but would remain up because it is considered a “newsworthy” post from a political party.
“This video may show violent or graphic content,” the warning reads. “We covered this video so you can decide if you want to see it.”
A Facebook spokesperson told a CNN reporter that the video’s graphic nature warranted the warning label.
“As with other videos that feature this graphic hit and run, we’ve included a warning screen so people are aware the content may be disturbing,” the spokesperson said.
“Today I want to share some new policies to connect people with authoritative information about voting, crack down on voter suppression, and fight hate speech,” Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg wrote in a Friday post about the new policies.
Taking aim at Patrisse Cullors, the GOP played a clip from a 2015 interview in which she identified herself and fellow co-founders of the Black Lives Matter organization as “trained Marxists.”
“I actually do think we have an ideological frame. We are trained Marxists,” the ad, released on Thursday, shows Cullors saying.
The advertisement plays two clips showing violent incidents of drivers running over police officers amid civil unrest that has followed the Memorial Day death in police custody of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
The ad also shows socialist New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden seemingly siding with the Black Lives Matter movement.
“I just don’t even know why there aren’t uprisings all over the country,” the minute-long video shows Pelosi saying while addressing reporters.
“This isn’t about justice. It’s about destroying America,” the ad concludes.
