Loyola coach Joe Logan doesn?t care his women?s basketball team hasn?t been spectacular on both ends of the court during its four-game winning streak.
“We always stress and emphasize defense, so we don?t care [what] we win by,” Logan, whose team is shooting 36.4 percent, said. “We want to become a little more consistent. When we become more consistent at the three-point line and free throw line, we will score in the 60s and 70s.”
Despite averaging just 56.7 points per game, the Greyhounds are 6-3 overall and 2-0 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play for just the third time in 18 years.
Logan attributes his team?s success to the play of freshman point guard Candice Walker, who starred at Towson Catholic last season, and junior reserve guard Siobhan Prior.
Walker leads the team in scoring with 9.4 points per game and has been named the MAAC Rookie of the Week three times. Prior averages 3.1 points per game in 13.1 minutes, but is tied for second on the team with five three-pointers.
“My teammates, my coaches, have given me confidence,” Prior, who had a career-high 11 points in the team?s 55-53 victory win over Canisius on Sunday, said. “I was in a bit of a slump and have gotten out of that.”
Loyola returns to the court on Dec. 22 when it hosts Columbia (2-8) at Reitz Arena at 1.
“As we progress we want to get more consistent,” Logan said. “We want to put 40 minutes together.”
