Former Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich has some advice for former President Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign based on his up-close interaction with the former president in the 2022 campaign.
“A bad general is fighting the last war. A good general is fighting the next one. And that’s what we need to focus on, fighting the next one. If Donald Trump focuses on fighting the last war, of relitigating 2020, Republicans will lose again,” said Brnovich, who retired from office last week after eight years.
DONALD TRUMP IS GEARING UP FOR HIS 2024 CAMPAIGN
In 2022, he ran for the Senate but lost out on winning Trump’s endorsement, which went to general election loser Blake Masters. Trump also backed losing Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake.
Brnovich said that a commonality of those endorsed by Trump and who lost in 2022 was advocating challenging the former president’s loss to President Joe Biden.
“Donald Trump is still very relevant in today’s Republican Party,” he told Secrets. But voters, he added, want to hear about the problems they face and candidates’ ideas for the future.

“People that were loyal to Donald Trump, you know, that he endorsed, especially in Arizona, that kind of focused on the past, on 2020, they all lost winnable races. In any other environment, any other climate, this should have been a dominant Republican year,” he added of the last election.
“So here’s the bottom line: Arizona is conservative, but it is not crazy,” he said.
