Eight shot at Florida MLK Day block party

Eight people were shot at a block party in Fort Pierce, Florida, on Monday while celebrating Martin Luther King Jr. and the day in his honor.

All eight of those shot were adults, and they were brought to the hospital for treatment, including one person in critical condition, Brian Hester, according. to the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office chief deputy.

Four other people were injured when they were running from the shooting, the sheriff’s office said. Sheriff Ken Mascara added that the shooting happened just hours after the holiday parade ended.

A video taken by a witness showed people dancing by their cars and enjoying music when what appeared to be gunfire rang out, per CNN. People quickly ran, some ducking behind cars or grabbing children’s hands and running across the street.

The sheriff’s office has not named any suspects in the shooting but is investigation the incident.
