Unusual act: Trump forgives ousted aide by promoting her book

She was caught talking out of school about the Trump family, a mistake that cost her the “dream job” as the director of Oval Office operations last year.

And now, Madeleine Westerhout has written a book about it and dished on the inner workings of the White House.

And President Trump’s reaction? Just 35 minutes after Westerhout went on Fox & Friends Tuesday morning to talk about her book, Off the Record: My Dream Job at the White House, How I Lost It, and What I Learned, Trump tweeted an endorsement.

He needed two tweets to get enough space to string together the praise:

“Great new book by former Director of Oval Office Operations, Madeleine Westerhout, entitled ‘Off the Record’. When I look at all of the Fake Books and garbage written about me, it’s really nice to see a very smart and already wise young woman write an honest depiction of what … went on at the White House during some extremely interesting and important times. So many good stories by someone who, unlike most other so called writers, was actually there, and a part of the action — of which there was plenty. Go buy this book, a job well done!”

Westerhout was ousted after somebody at an off-the-record dinner with four reporters she was invited to join revealed that she told negative stories about Trump family members.

In the book, she explained the lapse and took responsibility. But mostly, she used it to provide insider stories that challenge the media’s often-negative portrayal of Trump.

Trump’s initial forgiveness was unexpected, but the book endorsement was a gift, she said.

“His initial forgiveness last year aligns completely with the man I know,” she said, adding, “I am very humbled by, and appreciative of, the president’s public show of support!”
