Trump warns Mexico: Caravan of migrants ‘better be stopped’

President Trump warned Mexico on Tuesday that it needs to stop “caravan” of over 1,000 migrants from Honduras and other Central American countries before it reaches the U.S. border.

“The big Caravan of People from Honduras, now coming across Mexico and heading to our ‘Weak Laws’ Border, had better be stopped before it gets there,” Trump tweeted Tuesday. “Cash cow NAFTA is in play, as is foreign aid to Honduras and the countries that allow this to happen. Congress MUST ACT NOW!”

Trump has been arguing since Sunday that the group of migrants is a threat to the U.S. that Mexico needs to stop, and that the U.S. could pull out of NAFTA unless Mexico does more to help the U.S. secure the border between the two countries. Trump has also said he would not approve any deal to legislate protections for DACA recipients because of Mexico’s inaction.

Late Monday, there were indications that Mexico might step in before the group of migrants reaches the United States. A BuzzFeed reporter who is embedded in the group said Mexico plans to disband the caravan on Wednesday.
