Biden taps Susan Rice to run White House domestic policy shop

President-elect Joe Biden has found a place for former national security adviser and United Nations Ambassador Susan Rice in his administration.

Rice, 56, a vice president and secretary of state contender, will lead Biden’s White House Domestic Policy Council, despite her perceived expertise in foreign affairs.

A Biden transition spokesman declined to comment on the appointment.

Rice’s position does not require Senate confirmation, a key factor considering her role in then-President Barack Obama’s criticized response to the deadly 2012 attack on the U.S. diplomatic mission and CIA annex in Benghazi, Libya.

Senate Republicans would have also scrutinized her “unmasking” of Trump campaign officials Steve Bannon, Michael Flynn, and Jared Kushner in intelligence reports about their undisclosed December 2016 meeting with United Arab Emirates Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The Associated Press also reported Thursday that former White House chief of staff Denis McDonough was Biden’s pick to head the Department of Veterans Affairs.
