Trump reacts to 14.7% unemployment rate: ‘It’s fully expected’

President Trump brushed off the record-high unemployment rate as being “fully expected.”

The economy lost 20.5 million jobs in April, according to Labor Department data released Friday. The coronavirus pandemic has forced businesses to close and employees to stay home, causing the unemployment rate to soar to 14.7% last month, the highest on record.

“It’s fully expected. There’s no surprise. Everybody knows this,” Trump said in an interview with Fox & Friends on Friday.

Trump vowed the economy would bounce back after businesses are allowed to reopen.

“We had to close it, which is artificial. We artificially closed it. Those jobs will all be back,” he said.
