Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, argued Tuesday that the Democrat challenging him for his Senate seat, Rep. Beto O’Rourke, is not being supported by “smart, tough Texans,” and instead is getting a lift from Hollywood and liberal politicians from the northeast.
“First Rosie, then Al Franken, then Chelsea Handler, then Chuck Schumer, then Joe Kennedy, and now Elizabeth Warren…it’s clear that smart, tough Texans are the driving force behind Congressman Beto O’Rourke’s Leftist campaign!” Cruz said in a sarcastic tweet Tuesday morning.

A recent Quinnipiac poll revealed that Cruz is holding onto a 3 point lead, as 47 percent favor Cruz and 44 percent favor O’Rourke. That poll suggested O’Rourke is being helped by a surge in support from independents.
O’Rourke will still need to gain more ground to win in a deeply red state like Texas. Even though O’Rourke has some big names in his back pocket, he has pledged not to take any corporate PAC money and isn’t being helped by Democratic campaign arms.
However, the Democratic congressman raised more than double what Cruz raised in the first three months of 2018 at $6.7 million. The majority of his impressive campaign funds have been raised by individuals and small dollar donors.
