Trump: Dennis Rodman is better at negotiating with Kim Jong Un than ‘stiffs’ from Harvard

President Trump said he believes former Chicago Bulls star Dennis Rodman has better rapport with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un than an average diplomat from the State Department.

During an interview with Outkick founder Clay Travis on Fox Sports News on Thursday, Trump said he has more faith in Rodman’s ability to negotiate with North Korean leader than the “Harvard stiffs” who usually meet with foreign state leaders. Trump himself has met with Kim multiple times throughout his presidency while seeking a denuclearization deal, including a historic crossing into North Korea in the summer of 2019.

“He really does like Dennis Rodman, I will tell you,” Trump said. “I always say, ‘Dennis would be better than some of these stiffs that they used to send over to get to know him.’ And they’d send these people over, and they went to Harvard, and they are great students and great everything, but they had no chemistry whatsoever.”

Trump said the former NBA lockdown defender, who attracted international attention with his trips to North Korea and befriending of Kim in 2013, was better suited to negotiate with the leader of North Korea than “somebody that graduated #1 at Harvard.”

“He really did like Dennis Rodman, Dennis is a good guy too, and I said, ‘We should maybe use him instead of somebody that graduated #1 at Harvard. Maybe we should use Dennis,'” he said. “I thought about that. But I have a really great relationship with him, he does loves basketball, and he really does like Dennis.”

Trump also discussed the restart of college football and his golf game, claiming to have scored in the “low 70s” at the tricky Winged Foot golf course in New York.
