Michelle Obama wins Grammy

Michelle Obama took home the Grammy award for best spoken-word album for her audio edition of Becoming.

The former first lady’s memoir sold more than 11 million copies and is one of the top-selling autobiographies ever written, according to its publisher.

Obama, 56, was not at the awards show on Sunday to accept her award for the audio version of her memoir, which was released in November 2018.

The other nominees for the spoken word category were musician Eric Alexandrakis, poet Sekou Andrews, actor John Waters, and the Beastie Boys.

In her book, Obama details her childhood, her days in the White House, and the ways in which being a black woman shaped those experiences.

She is the second first lady to win a Grammy. Hillary Clinton, 72, won the spoken word album award in 1997 for her book It Takes a Village, which was released during her husband’s presidency.

Former President Barack Obama, 58, nabbed the award in 2006 for his recording of Dreams From My Father and again in 2008 for The Audacity of Hope.
