Biden parodies Bloomberg memes in video featuring Obama criticism

Joe Biden turned Michael Bloomberg’s meme machine against him in a video parody that highlighted the former New York mayor’s critical comments about President Barack Obama.

The video posted Wednesday shows fictional Instagram direct messages from Bloomberg similar to those he has paid popular internet content creators to post.

“I’m spending a lot of money this year. And I’d like to use it to make you think I’m a fan of Barack Obama,” messages from Bloomberg began, showing a Bloomberg ad that pictured him talking to the former vice president.

The video went on to share clips of the ultra-billionaire making comments critical of the Obama administration.

“We passed a healthcare bill that does absolutely nothing to fix the big healthcare problems in this country. It is just a disgrace,” Bloomberg said of Obama’s landmark Affordable Care Act in one 2010 video.

“I would argue that today we are more segregated in American certainly than we were, in terms of race, than we were a dozen years ago. Why during the Obama administration didn’t we pull together? Ask the president, that’s his job, really,” Bloomberg said in a 2016 clip.

The Biden video also noted that Bloomberg declined to endorse Obama in 2008 and lamented Obama’s support for monitoring New York’s stop-and-frisk policing program that disproportionately targeted minority communities, which Bloomberg apologized for last year.

The video kicker showed a 2011 clip where Bloomberg called President Trump a friend and a “New York icon.” It closed with, “Money can’t rewrite history.”

Bloomberg has spent more than $300 million on television and digital ads since he launched his campaign in November, dwarfing ad spending by his primary rivals.

The video came ahead of Wednesday night’s Democratic debate, which will be Bloomberg’s first presidential debate appearance.

The Bloomberg campaign responded to the Biden video with a clip that highlighted kind words from Biden about Bloomberg.

“I don’t know anyone I’ve worked with in my career,” Biden said, “who does more to create the future than you, Mike.”
