Republican National Committee raises record haul in August

The Republican National Committee raised a record $23.5 million in August, Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel announced Wednesday.

McDaniel credited “boycotts from Hollywood liberals” and Rep. Joaquin Castro, the brother of 2020 presidential candidate Julián Castro, who shamed Texas constituents for donating to President Trump.

“The more Democrats demonize President Trump and his supporters, the more boots we can put on the ground to reelect him. Between the President’s accomplishments and our grassroots infrastructure, Republicans are going to be unstoppable in 2020!” McDaniel said in a statement.

The RNC has raised $141.4 million thus far in the 2019-2020 election cycle, and has $53.8 million cash on hand. The committee said it’s the most cash on hand it has had since September 2016.

The party in control of the White House typically has a significant fundraising advantage, but the committee’s recent fundraising haul is a significant increase from the $7.3 million it raised in August 2017 and its $16 million haul in August 2018.

The Democratic National Committee has not yet announced its fundraising numbers for last month.
