CNN analyst: Liberal Democrats proposing ‘voodoo economics’

Following the first night of the Democratic debates in Detroit on Tuesday, CNN analyst Gloria Borger offered front-runner Joe Biden advice ahead of his Wednesday night appearance.

“If I’m Joe Biden watching this, I’m thinking ‘I better do a better than they did.’ There were a lot of phrases that were used that reminded me of ‘voodoo economics,'” Borger said, referring to repeated suggestions of “massive government expansion” and “fairy tale” proposals made by candidates Sens. Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders.

“Voodoo economics” was coined in 1980 by President George H.W. Bush, who criticized then-presidential candidate Ronald Reagan for his economic proposals which he feared would greatly increase the national debt.

Borger continued to note that the ultra-liberal agenda proposed by Sanders and Warren could have trouble resonating with voters and will turn them into a target on future debate stages. “Let’s get real here,” Borger concluded.
