Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer jokingly jabbed Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell over his absence at the Senate gym where the rest of his Republican leadership colleagues were working out during the baseball practice shooting Wednesday morning.
“I go to the gym every morning. I learned Democrats exercise late in the day and Republicans early in the morning, except for Mitch — the whole leadership team of Republicans were there and we were all united in our shock and hope there would be fewer injuries. It was a moment,” Schumer told CNN host Anderson Cooper during an interview from Nationals Park in Washington, D.C., Thursday night where the Congressional Baseball Game was taking place.
“We do it all the time and we’re talking and working with each other — a lot of contention. Obviously, the politics has become polarized and doesn’t have to stand in the way of working relationships to do that,” Schumer added.
Four people were shot, including House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, when a now-deceased gunman opened fire at Republicans’ practice baseball session in Alexandria, Va., Wednesday morning.
