Barack Obama teams with Kamala Harris to raise money for Biden campaign

Barack Obama is lending his star power to Democratic nominee Joe Biden’s campaign, planning to co-host a couple of fundraisers with Biden’s running mate, Sen. Kamala Harris of California.

Obama, the first black president, is teaming with Harris, the first black vice presidential nominee, to headline two fundraisers for the Biden campaign. Scheduled for Oct. 2, the virtual events will include one for grassroots contributors who donate in small amounts and another for high rollers, who can purchase tickets ranging from $100,000 to $250,000.

News of the Obama-Harris fundraisers was first reported Thursday by Bloomberg.

Biden was vice president for two terms under Obama. The former president delivered a keynote at the Democratic convention and has previously helped Biden raise money for his contest against President Trump. Obama’s upcoming fundraisers with Harris will be their first together of this campaign since Biden put her on the ticket.

In June, a similar pair of fundraising events headlined by Biden and Obama raised around $11 million.

Biden began the race against Trump with little money and trailing the incumbent significantly in resources. But the former vice president outraised Trump by approximately $150 million in August and has continued to rake in campaign cash, putting him on firm financial footing, with more money to spend than the president.
