NEW YORK (AP) — Authorities say a woman was fatally hit by a New York City subway train after falling on the tracks at a busy station.

Authorities were continuing Sunday to investigate details of the death Saturday afternoon. It happened at the Union Square station in downtown Manhattan.

A Metropolitan Transportation Authority spokesman says the woman apparently accidentally tumbled onto the tracks around 3:15 p.m., as a southbound No. 4 train approached.

The Fire Department says she was pronounced dead at the scene.

She was in her 20s. Her name hasn’t been released.
