Dan Crenshaw spoke with Pete Davidson after the SNL star hinted at suicide

Rep.-elect Dan Crenshaw said he spoke with “Saturday Night Live” cast member Pete Davidson after he posted an Instagram message saying he “really didn’t want to be on this earth anymore.”

“I talked to him personally [Sunday],” Crenshaw told KPRCA2 Houston on Tuesday. “We don’t go back very far. We’re not good friends. But I think he appreciated hearing from me. I told him everyone has a purpose in this world. God put you here for a reason. It’s your job to find that purpose. And you should live that way.”

Davidson has struggled with depression and borderline personality disorder, and has said he has had suicidal thoughts.

Crenshaw and Davidson made headlines ahead of the 2018 midterm elections after the SNL star made fun of the former Navy SEAL’s war wounds. Davidson said Crenshaw looked liked a “hit man in a porno movie.”

The Republican Rep.-elect lost an eye in an IED blast while he was serving in Afghanistan, and he wears an eyepatch.

The next week, Davidson apologized and gave Crenshaw a chance to crack jokes about Davidson.

“I mean this from the bottom of my heart. It was a poor choice of words. The man is a war hero and he deserves all the respect in the world,” Davidson said in his apology.
