Rep. Rashida Tlaib ripped President Trump on Twitter after the president ordered a strike that killed top Iranian Gen. Qassem Soleimani in Baghdad late on Thursday.
“We cannot stay silent as this lawless President recklessly moves us closer to yet another unnecessary war that puts innocent lives at risk at home & across the globe,” the Michigan Democrat tweeted Friday morning. “Congress alone has the authority to declare war, & we must reclaim our responsibility & say no to war with Iran.”
Tlaib, 43, promised to “impeach the motherf—er” and has been a critic of Trump since being elected in 2018. She makes up part of “the Squad,” a group of four freshman Democrats that includes Reps. Ilhan Omar, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Ayanna Pressley, who have attempted to push the Democratic party further to the left.
Omar, who represents Minnesota’s 5th congressional district, called on Congress to “step in and fight” against the president following the death of Soleimani and Iranian-backed Popular Mobilization Forces boss Abu Mahdi al Muhandis.
