EAST MEADOW, N.Y. (AP) — A Long Island sanitation worker has died after a collision with another garbage truck.
Nassau County Police say Jarred Newallo sustained crushing injuries Friday morning while trying to guide the second truck through a residential street made narrower by a parked car.
Police say the 25-year-old Town of Hempstead employee was standing on the rear step of his truck when he was hit.
Police say the accident happened around 9:25 a.m. at the intersection of Prospect Avenue and Chestnut Street in East Meadow.
Newallo was pronounced dead about an hour later at Nassau University Medical Center.
