4-year-old dies of accidental gunshot wound

A Woodbridge boy died Wednesday afternoon after he accidentally shot himself in the head, police said.

At about 3:25 p.m., a family member of the 4-year-old called Prince William County police, reporting that the boy had sustained a gunshot wound to his head. He was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead. Police said they believe the injury was self-inflicted.

Police said the incident was “isolated to a vehicle” on the 14800 block of Empire Street in Woodbridge. They released no further information on the boy and added that an investigation is ongoing.

Residents displaced after P.G. fire

About 30 people were displaced after a fire at an apartment building in District Heights, officials said.

At about 7:45 p.m. Tuesday, a Prince George’s County police officer saw smoke and traced it to a three-story apartment building at 1971 Rochelle Ave.

Firefighters arrived and found that the blaze was burning on all floors and in the attic. About 75 firefighters and medics battled the fire for almost an hour before it was extinguished.

No injuries were reported, but about 30 residents have been displaced. Fire loss is estimated to be $500,000, officials said, and the fire’s cause is under investigation.
