Bernie Sanders is known for his redistribution of wealth campaign. He won’t take money from Super PACs, and he’s lauded by many as running on anti-corruption.
But, the Washington Free Beacon noted that, according to public records, Sanders has been sending money from his campaign and nonprofits to his family and friends.
He may have already redistributed the wealth before even getting elected president.
Sanders’ wife, Jane O’Meara Sanders, was paid over $90,000 for consulting and ad placement services between 2002 and 2004, and pocketed $30,000 of it. During the time she served as president of Burlington College, starting in 2004, her daughter and the son of a family friend were paid six-figures.
The college also had a study abroad program in the Caribbean, spending about $47,000 in the tax year starting 2008. The friend’s son purchased a resort there, which received checks for the study abroad program. The resort was annually paid about $68,000, which stopped when O’Meara Sanders stepped down in 2011.
If the Caribbean study abroad program wasn’t enough though, there was more controversy to her departure. She reportedly overstated contributions to the school in order to get a loan from the Roman Catholic Diocese of Burlington, which lost up to $2 million for it.
Perhaps primary voters in other states may now Feel the Bern — of being betrayed by their candidate.
