Rep. Ilhan Omar reacted to Sen. Bernie Sanders’s poor primary performance Tuesday, urging his supporters to continue backing him.
“Yes we are a family, united in restoring our democracy and committed to defeating Trump, but that doesnât mean we should stop fighting for the candidate that best represents our policy priorities in this Primary,” the Minnesota Democrat tweeted late Tuesday night. “Be kind to one another and letâs have each otherâs back in Nov!”

Sanders lost four of the six states that voted in the latest round of primaries to former Vice President Joe Biden. He took home a win in North Dakota, and the final state of Washington has yet to declare a victor. Omar and fellow “squad” members Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Rashida Tlaib have endorsed the Vermont senator.
Ocasio-Cortez appeared to all but concede defeat to Biden, stating on Instagram Live that there was “no sugarcoating” Sanders’s poor performance.
“Tonight is a tough night,” she said, adding about Biden, “If you win a race, you win a race.”
Omar had campaigned with Sanders in her home state of Minnesota before Super Tuesday last week, but her endorsement proved to be a flop as the presidential contender lost the state by more than 60,000 votes.
