President Joe Biden seems to want his own appointee to tell the rest of the world there is “a continuation of
slavery
” in the United States and that black people merit “
reparations
” under terms dictated by black recipients.
Howard University law professor Justin Hansford is the latest example of the Biden administration appointing radicals to push extreme ideas unconnected with the centrist politics to which Biden pretends he adheres. Either the ancient Biden is not in charge or he is a loony
leftist
. Maybe both.
AMERICANS DESERVE ACCOUNTABILITY BEFORE FISA IS REAUTHORIZED
Hansford, Biden’s appointee to the United Nations’s Permanent Forum on People of African Descent, recently
told that assembly
that Martin Luther King Jr.’s I Have a Dream speech called for financial reparations (
it didn’t
), that financial “reparations is what justice looks like in the 21st century” (it doesn’t), and that “mass incarceration” is a “continuation of slavery” rather than punishment for actual crimes committed.
He also said “genocide … is another interesting legal claim that could be brought” by black people and advocated an extreme form of racial separatism in which blacks are a “people,” defined by skin color, not by nationality and certainly not by being Americans, who cannot trust even sympathetic whites to help them achieve “justice.”
“So far, we’ve left it to the scholars of the past, the lawyers of the past — the white scholars, the white lawyers — to determine the bounds of our legal imagination to determine the narrow strictures that we will use to determine what justice looks like for our own people,” Hansford told the forum. “[We should] propose our own vision of justice and implement that justice. … [We should] create a new bar association including lawyers and nonlawyers to discuss what it means to be repaired in 2023 for crimes that have been done to us and are continuing to be done to us for over 500 years.”
He said black people should “start the process of apology and reparation but not on their terms — but on our terms.” In other comments, he declared that $5 million payouts to black people would be “on the low end of what’s appropriate.”
Outside the U.N. context, Hansford has called “police abolition” the “ultimate goal.”
This is not a random professor spouting ludicrous ideas at an academic conference. This is a man speaking on behalf of the U.S. Why would Biden appoint not just a police defunder but a police abolitionist to represent the U.S. to a worldwide body? Why would anyone in his administration allow a Biden appointee, without supervision, to promote reparations and call his own country a continuing enslaver?
Not only are reparations morally unjustifiable — why should recent white immigrants today pay for the bad treatment of black people generations ago? — and utterly unaffordable (do the math), but the idea is
opposed by two-thirds majorities
of the people Biden is sworn to serve. What the president’s appointee is promoting is far from mainstream and far from reasonable.

If Biden even knows what his appointees are doing, he should remove Hansford from the U.S. delegation and publicly disavow his remarks.
If he doesn’t know, somebody should wake him up to tell him.
