Pro-lifers: Trump ‘has delivered’

On the 46th anniversary of the first March for Life, a year after the landmark 1973 Supreme Court decision supporting abortion, pro-life advocates have declared President Trump their biggest supporter ever in the Oval Office.

“I never anticipated he would be the most pro-life president in history,” said Focus on the Family President Jim Daly. “We feel our views are supported,” he told Secrets this morning.

“President Trump has delivered on his promises, governing as the most pro-life president in U.S. history,” said Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of the national pro-life group Susan B. Anthony List.

Since his first day in office, they said, Trump has not only reversed pro-abortion policies and funding put in place by President Barack Obama, he has acted on nearly every request the pro-life movement has asked of him.

The latest example occurs today when he becomes the first president in history to attend and speak at the annual March for Life.

In addition, Trump has peppered his staff with pro-life workers and put a premium on student interns from Christian and evangelical colleges and universities.

“We have an enormous number of friends in this administration,” said one conservative leader.

Trump, a former New Yorker and Democrat, has surprised conservatives with his devotion to their causes. Critics, especially liberals, have accused them of being hypocritical, but Daly said that like supporters of Democratic presidents, those who back Trump “are sophisticated in their choices.”

He said that pro-life advocates and evangelicals are more focused on policy and personnel and appreciate Trump’s support.

“Trump has pursued policies we’ve dreamt of,” he said.

Dannenfelser today was named national co-chairwoman of Pro-Life Voices for Trump in 2020; Rev. Frank Pavone of Priests for Life is the co-chairman.

Dannenfelser said that she would promote Trump to pro-life voters and help to draw a contrast with the eventual Democratic nominee.

“We know there will be a stark contrast to make to voters between his leadership and the abortion extremism of his opponents. The eventual Democratic nominee is guaranteed to support abortion on demand through birth, funded by taxpayers, and even infanticide,” she said.
