Actor and comedian Nick Offerman will urge people to get vaccinated against COVID-19 in testimony before Congress Wednesday.
Offerman, best known for his role as Ron Swanson in the sitcom Parks and Recreation, will appear at a hearing of the House Energy and Commerce Committee on building confidence in COVID-19 vaccines.
In his testimony, Offerman will state that ignorance “is an area in which I can claim some authority, and it is from that perch I would like to communicate why it’s extremely important that we all get vaccinated.”

He notes that some members of his extended family members in Illinois have refused to wear masks and now refuse to be vaccinated, something that he blames on “disinformation from social media platforms with no oversight.”
COVID-19 vaccines were produced in less than a year, causing some people to worry that safety was sacrificed.
“But you can rest assured the hustle was not applied to the safety of the product — the science didn’t arrive overnight. It was based on 40 years of work,” Offerman will say.

Offerman’s small business that produces custom furniture and a charity he supports that helps the homeless were all disrupted because of the pandemic. Both, he states, are getting back on track due to the vaccine.
