Racing legend Danny Ongais dies at 79

Racing legend Danny Ongais, nicknamed “The Flyin’ Hawaiian” and best known for competing in the Indy 500, has died.

Ongais, who was born in Kahului, went on to become the only Hawaiian to compete in the Indy 500. Ongais started 11 times between 1977 and 1996, finished in the top 10 spots four times, and placed fourth in 1979, according to Fox News.
